My older son, Nick, lives with his girlfriend Summer, who is originally from Tianjin, China, although she has lived here in the U.S. now for many years. They met when they both worked as programmers for Chase, in a huge facility of 10,000 employees.
Early this fall, Nick accompanied Summer on a trip to China to see her family and see a few sights. Here are some of the photos he took.
First, some food pics. 🙂

And some of the places where they ate:
And a priceless photo of Summer at the foot of the Great Wall of China with Burger King in the background. It’s everywhere!

Tianjin is a big city about an hour away from Beijing. Here are some photos Nick took there.
Nick asked to go to Shanghai, which is over 5 hours away by a very high-speed bullet train. The family made an expedition of it. A few shots from Shanghai:
Now, for my favorite photos, those that Nick took when they went to the small town of Songling (aka “No. 1 Water Town”). It is an historically-preserved town of many canals, and it is where the gorgeous Chengxu Temple is located. First, pictures of Songling:
Now, for the gorgeous Chengxu Temple:
Except for the two “food” photos taken at the foot of the Great Wall of China, Nick hasn’t yet posted his pictures from that excursion. So I’ll have to do another, short post when those become available.
I hope you’ve enjoyed my son’s photos of his trip to China as much as I have! 🙂
Interesting photos. What a wonderful thing to have family connections there. Such an ancient culture.

Thank you, Robyn! I would love to visit there someday. Nick said that Summer’s family treated him like a “rock star.” Pretty cool. 🙂

Yes! Me too. My daughter lived there for a few months during a work assignment. It was quite an experience. Especially given ancestral connections we have. I hope you get to visit soon.
