Not really much to report these days, because aside from going to class (although I’ve missed one), I’m on pretty strict rest in order to recover from the accident three weeks ago in time for my trip to Iceland. It will be cutting it very close, and there’s even a possibility that I might not be able to go. 😦 That would be WAY TOO SAD!
The money I paid for my accommodations at the hostel in Reykjavik, which was a huge chunk of my bundled flight/hotel deal, is nonrefundable. And I can only get a credit for the airfare to use sometime later.
But much worse than the monetary loss would be the loss of seeing Iceland and its people. Here’s the post when I was first planning the trip: Iceland or Bust! It has some good photos, too.
So please send healing thoughts, vibes and prayers to me! ❤
I’ll be staying most of the time at Loft Hostel in Reykjavik, the one featured above. But two nights I’ll be at a wonderful AirBnB southwest of the city in Hafnarfjordur, the Town of the Hidden People. And you who know me know that I’m a believer in hidden folk of all kinds. So if I do get to Iceland and then never come back, you’ll know that I have been taken in by a tall, silvery, gorgeous Elf man who will treat me as the Queen I should be! 🙂
My AirBnB hosts, Bjorg and Olafur, are so kind and wonderful. You can see photos of their lovely home and location at their site on AirBnB. This listing is for the little room I’ll be in: Warm room in nature. They also have two other, larger rooms they rent out. They are very popular: just take a look at their reviews. We have been writing back and forth since before Christmas! I feel like I know them…like they are already very real friends of mine. ❤
They have put together a special day trip for us up West Iceland to Dalir, so that I can see the sites of Laxdaela saga, my very favorite of the Icelandic family sagas (which are about what happens when Vikings settle down on an island near the Arctic Circle and become farmers), but these places are not on the tourist paths. I’m not renting a car, and the bus system doesn’t quite go where I want to go, so Bjorg and Olafur have come to the rescue! Olafur is going to take along his drone and will post videos from it on their YouTube channel, Keep Walking. Here are some of his posts to date, the first one is from a drone that a guest brought:
Since Olafur will be posting videos of our trip, I will have a memento of my trip up West Iceland to Dalir! So you see, I must get well enough to go!
Here are some of the other, many, many things I plan to see while I’m there.
Please do send all your healing powers to me!

I’m praying! You cannot miss this trip! You’ll go and have the time of your life!

Our thoughts and wishes are that you recover not just on time, but well ahead.
And strong to see Iceland. You have to! You need to tell us what you see, so that we can be inspired to get there too!

Sounds like a wonderful opportunity. I couldn’t help chuckling at your mention of never coming back due to a gorgeous silvery elf man. I sympathize heartily. 😁
Hope you better in time for your trip, and I look forward to hearing how it went.

Thank you, April! ❤ Besides gorgeous Iceland and the city sites in Reykjavik, I really want to meet my AirBnB hosts, Ólafur and Björg. They are such lovely people, two of my good online friends that I want to meet in real life! Like you–England is on my bucket list, and when I get there, I dearly hope to meet you and a couple other of my blogging buddies from the UK. And of course, should you come to the US, you have an open invitation to come experience the Midwest and stay with me! 🙂

That would be great. That’s the downside of blogging friends – they usually live on the other side of the world.

If you’re not completely healed, you can go mostly healed. Take your cane, or a collapsible walker, and GO. You mustn’t miss such a wonderful opportunity!

Oh thank you especially, my dear Barbara, for your get-well wishes because you may know the dragonfly is my totem spirit animal. And since your symbol here in WordPress is a dragonfly, I always feel that you bring me dragonfly energy and blessings! ❤

I’m hoping you can do this same trip next year, Timi. I’ve just been looking through your posts to find out about your accident. The only thing I can find is one I read some time ago, when you fell off a chair. I really didn’t realise that that was as serious as it was. Apologies for that, Timi. I’m sure the elves will still be waiting for you, especially Elf Man. Hope you’re much better now.
As I said, I’ve only been on my blog to post a few things, and connecting with people has been minimal. Our eldest daughter was diagnosed with breast cancer in April and we’ve been constantly on hand to take her backwards and forwards to hospital (our choice). Fortunately she didn’t need a mastectomy, but it had got into the lymph so she’d currently still undergoing chemotherapy. That will be followed by an intensive month on radiotherapy in September. So our longer holidays have been cancelled, too (Malta and Ireland). We’ve just managed a couple of very short breaks in England. I’m not really back properly on my blog now, and writing my trilogy has been on hold.
Anyway, it’s been nice to find out how things are with you, though cancelling Iceland must have been hard. Set your sights on next year. 🙂

Thank ou, Millie, for your kind note, although I’m sorry to hear about your daughter’s troubles. I hope that all goes well with her.
I’m still having trouble with my injuries from the fall, and to top it off, I find I’m quite depressed, for which I spent a week in hospital and am now in an outpatient program. I’m not going to be blogging much in the foreseeable future, but I hope we can stay in touch!
My next idea for travel is not Iceland but rather the UK in a couple of years. Maybe we will be able to meet each other then! 🙂

I would absolutely love to meet you in the UK, Timi! We’d just need to arrange that a bit closer to the time. There is no shortage of historical sites for you to visit here, as well as lots of lovely, scenic locations. London tends to be the place most tourists head to – not surprising as there is so much history to soak up there. Other tourists book tours, which are usually good at giving an overview of the different regions, but it involves a lot of time spent sitting on a coach (bus) – not everyone’s idea of fun!
I’m really sorry to know how depressed you’ve been and can only imagine the fall and painful injures from it brought that on. I hope you’ll soon be well enough to continue all the projects you used to have on the go and get back to your re-enactment groups.

Thanks, Millie. ❤ Although everyone does say to go to London, and I imagine I will, the city that intrigues me the most is York, perhaps because of my Viking interest. Also, Norfolk is my ancestral family seat, so it might be intriguing to visit there. And much of southern England is on my list. Actually I think I'd like to see just about anything in England! So far, all I've seen of it was when I was shuttling between terminals at Heathrow. 😛 LOL

It sounds as though you’ll need a very long visit over here, Timi! York is a lovely city. We go there very often as it’s easily ‘doable’ in a day from here (with a visit or two to nice sites once we’re there). We visited the newly opened Jorvik Viking Museum a couple of weeks ago. It was flooded out almost two years ago when the River Ouse burst its banks yet again. The museum needed a lot of restorative work doing, at quite a cost. Fortunately, most of the displays were salvaged. Norfolk is lovely, too. We had a few holidays there when the children were all little and our youngest son went to Norwich University.
I think you’ll have to be a little bit strict and plan an easily doable route. Unless, of course, you can manage a few months over here! 😀 As for airports … I hate them all! They’re just an unfortunate means to an end. I don’t suppose I’m the only one to think that, though. Where would we be without them? Take care of yourself. ❤
