I have not written in quite some time, because things have been rather difficult, not only personally but with a mysteriously, practically fatally, lagging computer. However, I look forward to a brighter future on both fronts!
Meanwhile, I recently received an honor, an Award of Arms, from Their Royal Majesties of the Midrealm Kingdom, King Cellach and Queen Vukasin, of the Society for Creative Anachronism. The Award entitles me to be formally addressed as “Lady,” in my case “Lady Unnr Olafsdottir,” since my character is a 10th century Icelandic woman. It also entitles me to wear a circlet. I received a scroll for my honor, beautifully illuminated with a harp and written in Viking runes by Angelique De LaRochelle, which is shown above.
I received my honor for my studies and teaching about medieval Norse cultures and skill in playing the harp.
Meanwhile, Ophelia is looking rather elegant on my pink silk chair:
Till next time, I hope you are all well, and I hope to report myself, and my computer, to be much improved soon!
Glad to know all’s well!
And yes indeed Orphelia seems to be living it up as Lady on your hehalf!

Ophelia’s elegance rather hides her true nature as a bloodthirsty huntress! 😛

Welcome back. Do I address you as ‘Your Ladyship’?

Thanks, Larry. Actually, historically speaking, in 10th century Iceland, where my character Unnr Olafsdottir comes from, there were no Lords and Ladies. But in my SCA group I can now be officially addressed as “Lady Unnr,” whereas before the award I was a mere “Unnr.” LOL ! 😉

And I agree, April: the scroll is stunning! However, I was glad to see that an English translation of the runes (futhark) was provided on the back. Although I do have several books containing both the early and the later rune alphabets, sitting down and transliterating the scroll would have been time-consuming, to say the least!

Ophelia seems to be under the impression that the scroll was for her. She’s got that “recognition at last” look about her.

Sometimes our troubles arrive in a perfect storm. Then it’s one step at a time, one day at a time. And oh the relief at a scrap of blue sky!

I see that I’ve missed a lot of your posts, so I’m just dipping in random;y here. And what a lovely post to start with! Congratultions on the award, Lady Unnr. I’ve no doubt it is truly merited. The scroll is very beautiful and I can imagine how you look in your new circlet.
I’m glad health issues have improved and hope they stay that way. I also hope you had a wonderful birthday. Keep well during the cold winter weather.

Thanks, Millie! I’m sorry to have taken so long to reply to your kind words. Sometimes things just seem to get away from me. I haven’t been keeping up with your posts ( or anyone else’s either ), but it’s not for lack of interest, just being busy and preoccupied. How are you? How were your holidays? Are you writing these days? I’m sure you know that I didn’t get to go to Iceland because of my accident last spring. How about you, have you traveled anywhere interesting lately, in the UK or out? I might be going to Ireland with a group of musician friends in 2021, and if I do, I’d like to add on a side trip to England. It would be great fun to meet you! Take care, and I hope you are well and that I will hear from you soon!

I’m sorry for not reading any more of your posts, which I’d intended to do before Christmas. The lead up to Christmas was a bit crazy here, as always, and even my writing was “on hold” for a couple of weeks. Now I’m rushing like mad to finish Book # of my trilogy.
Yes, I knew you had to cancel your trip to Iceland because of the accident and I was so disappointed on your behalf. I can only hope you’ve recovered well from the fall and are feeling well in yourself.
Nick and I hope to be in Ireland, just for a week, in September. I’m meeting up with a blogging friend, too. We’d planned to go last year but all the family illnesses made it impossible to go very far. We just had lots of short breaks in England and Wales last year. We’re also going up to Scotland in June for a week, and probably to Malta in October. We’re just hoping every one stays well this year and we don’t have to cancel everything again.
I’d love to meet you in 2021! That would be amazing. It’s a good way off yet, but it will be something to look forward to. Talk again tomorrow… ❤

Great to hear from you, Millie! ❤ Yes, 2021 is a ways off, but it will take me that long to save the money necessary for the trip. 🙂 Hopefully it will happen, both the musical Ireland part and an extension in England, where I'd love to meet you and also to see some sights. What would you recommend? I definitely will go to York. Anything and everything else is optional… Anyway, there's lots of time to dream and plan! 😉
