I’ve been working on a new Viking underdress today. I got all the pieces cut out and the edges zigzagged, because I wanted to do that before I assemble everything, since with the apron dress I made recently I couldn’t zigzag the seams on the points of the gores after I had sewed the pieces together.
Per the instructions, I also finished the neck hole at this early stage of things, although when I did my first underdress, I did the neck hole last of all, along with the sleeve hems and the bottom hem. But since I’m trying out this pattern that is new to me, I figured it would behoove me to go with the program.
Here’s what it looks like tonight, loosely pinned together:
There are two gores on each side, in addition to the center panel, which is one long piece of material from front to back, with a hole for the head. Since my fabric is only 44″ wide, I couldn’t do much of a flare with my gores. Still, the dress will go under an apron dress or smokkr, which is why it is called an “underdress.” LOL! 😛 And the apron dress I made recently is nicely flared. So it’s all good. 🙂
Also today I received my new business cards! I had hoped to order more of my old cards, but they are no longer available, so I browsed through offerings of many companies and sites, until I came upon one that I liked. It is purple like my harp. ❤
I am putting a redacted version of the card up, because the one I ordered contains personal contact information. If you want to contact me off of WordPress, just let me know! 🙂
The back of the card says “Medieval Harper, Viking Studies Teacher, Living the Dream.” “Living the Dream” is the SCA motto. ❤
Yes living the dream indeed.
One way, when we finally get to retire from work, we’d like to finally participate in activities like you do. Long way to go though!

I’ve got to say, it’s wonderful being retired, although now the issue is not enough money, whereas it used to be not enough time. There’s always something! 😛

Tradeoffs… we all have to come to terms with that!

The underdress is looking good. Things are always easier the second time you do them.

True. But this pattern is so different from what I used to the first one that it is really like the first time. Especially since the pattern wasn’t professionally done and there were several important things that were left out, much to my dismay! Luckily I had the foresight to just baste together the sleeve/gore assemblies, because it turned out that I had put them together wrong! 😛 But seam-ripping is easy when it’s just basting that needs to come out, thank heavens! 😉

And thank you, April, for the compliment! I need as many of those as I can get! ❤

At least you noticed it was wrong before things had gone too far.
