Two days ago, I fainted after I got out of the shower. I don’t remember the fall at all, although I do remember thinking the bathroom was too hot and steamy, and I felt lightheaded.

Next thing I knew, I was waking up after landing on my face in the bathtub. It really, really hurt, and there was lots of blood.

After extricating myself from the tub, I called my son Jason, who took me to the emergency room at a local hospital. They put me in a neck brace and did X-rays and CT scans and tested my heart in various ways.

They decided to admit me to the hospital for observation and further heart monitoring.

My son Nick and his girlfriend Summer took me home when I was discharged. I am very lucky to have both my sons living nearby! ❤

Diagnosis: vasovagal syncope, a fancy term for fainting. It is brought on by a trigger. In my case, the trigger was probably the long hot shower, followed by my hot steamy bathroom when I got out of the tub. Overheating is a known trigger. And I’ve never done well in steam baths.

Damage done: a broken nose, two black eyes, lacerations to my mouth and chin, and lots of bruises. But no concussion, and it appears that it wasn’t triggered by a heart problem. It could have been much worse.

Meanwhile, I’m taking pain meds and taking it easy. I am NOT going to post a photo of my gruesome looking face! 😛 In fact, after looking at images on Google, I’m not going to post any of those, either.

Instead I’m posting a photo of my cat Sissy sitting on a map of Iceland, where I’m still hoping to go in June, barring any other injurious fainting spells. ❤
