I’m putting off a planned trip to Iceland for the second time. 😦
It is a real disappointment.
But given my age, health problems, and the fact that I was planning to go alone, I think it’s better to wait until I can find someone to go with, or a tour to go on.
And Iceland should still be there at that point, barring some cataclysmic earthquake/volcanic eruption event that dooms it like Atlantis. I don’t think that will happen. 🙂 At least, I hope not!
Timi, I am truly sorry you had to do this, but it probably is a wise decision. 🙏

Thank you, Larry. I didn’t make it on a whim, but only after much thought.

Oh no! 😦 I had to delay mine once due to changing jobs. I hope you get to go soon!

What a shame. I hope you can find a tour to go with.

Thanks, April! I’m thinking about one of the Road Scholar trips. Are you familiar with them?

No, l haven’t heard of them.

It’s an American travel company that caters to the older traveler, who is interested in learning some local tidbits off the beaten path. It used to be called Elderhostel. Here’s a link: https://www.roadscholar.org/

That sounds ideal.

I’ve taken a Roads Scholar tour. Went to St. Augustine, FL. It was amazing.

I’m sorry and hope you can find the best way to go. Part of me thinks I could just go backpack through Europe the way I used to, and part of me wants to sit in bed and read Regency romances from about this time of day onward, every day–so far that side is winning.

It seems like a really positive thing to do, so I hope you can do it sooner instead of later when things like age might make it even harder–I have been sort of avoiding most travel for a few years, and it has reduced my quality of life and sense of self, although at the time I feel unable to go. The right group or companion can make the difference, I guess. Good luck with it.

Thanks, Donnalee. I have a friend who might be able to go with me at some point, so I hope that it will still happen.

Realism strikes, and that’s fine. You know Timi, more and more of my once fiercely independent friends are finding they can get the best of both worlds with carefully chosen guided tours and I think you’re on the way to some happy travels. Good luck.

I’m so sorry to hear that you didn’t go to Iceland after all, Timi. I know how much you were looking forward to the trip. Not being a youngster myself, I can understand why you put it on hold again – and I agree, a tour would probably be best (provided social distancing rules aren’t still in place!) I’d feel the same about travelling alone.
No holidays for any of us this year, though. We haven’t even been able to have our usual Sunday outings to historic sites. Hopefully, the dark clouds will soon disappear and the sun will shine on all of us again. Keep safe and well. ❤

Thanks, Millie. I have researched both medieval and modern Iceland so much that I practically feel as if I had gotten to go. Still, the actual experience is always different and more enriching. I do hope to go someday, but if it doesn’t happen, that is also OK. Please stay safe and well yourself! 🙂
