To be specific, Mallard Ducks and Canada Geese.
When I went for my walk to the pond this evening, I was surprised to find the Canada Goose family on my side of the pond!
Maybe it was because of the lateness of the hour, almost 8 pm.
The goslings are really getting big!
Some Mallard Ducks came swimming over from the other side of the pond.
Apparently the Canada Geese decided to give a wide berth to the Mallards, although I usually see them hanging out more or less together.
Here are the geese, moving further along the shore of the pond.
Goodbye, geese!
What a lovely encounter to have on your evening walk! The goslings grow up so quickly. I love the way one goose is always standing tall to guard the little ones and keep watch. You’ve got quite a large family there.

Yikes! I swear I only hit reply once. Not sure why two comments showed up.

One of the photos I didn’t post is of a goose warily watching the ducks approach. I think that’s why the geese moved on, with their goslings.

There is another, smaller pond on the other side of a treeline. And on the pond is yet another large Canada Goose family. But its goslings are quite a bit younger and smaller. I didn’t get to see them on this walk because I didn’t want to disturb the family on my side of the larger (and closer) pond. The larger pond belongs to the City of Columbus, and it is stocked with fish. If I get out there at the right time in the morning, I can see herons and egrets fishing, in addition to the ducks and geese. π

The only thing missing in your pond is an alligator – I’d be happy to send you one from down here in sunny, swampy Florida.π€£

Thanks, Larry, but I’ll pass on the alligator. π I already had my Florida alligator experience. About 30 years ago, when we took my sons, who were then 6 and 7, to Disney World, we stayed about an hour south in a condo belonging to some family friends, which was situated near a canal. We didn’t realize that the screen porch needed to be locked up tight. One morning I opened the door to the porch and guess who was there, waiting patiently? You got it, it was a gator. I don’t think it was a very big one, but it kept us in the house until it decided, hours later, to leave. Of course the boys thought it was a great adventure!

Lovely photos of the geese with their goslings. I can imagine the geese might be quite aggressive if they thought you were getting a bit too close. Whenever we’ve come across geese in parks (without young) we get mobbed for food. So many visitors feed them, they come to exepect it from everyone. Most places have started putting up notices about not feeding the wildfowl.
